Pre-required

To install an play the game and the demo, you will need to install wine.

If you still installed wine, you could uninstall and re-install it. You would see the installation windows correctly and not blank. If you do that, now go to ‘Installation’ before to go back here to install winetricks.

you will need the winetricks too :
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetrickschmod +x winetrickssudo mv winetricks /usr/binsudo apt-get install cabextract
Some packages require cabextract to be installed. One in deposits is fully functional.

After run this command :
winetricks directx9winetricks vcrun2005sp1winetricks vcrun2005winetricks msxml3

Then, download the dll xinput1_3.dll and d3dx9_38.dll to place in the folder /.wine/drive_c/windows/system32.
Installation

Now, you can install the game, so run the terminal :
cd /media/cdrom0 wine setup.exe

You will maybe see a blank window, so this is what to do with your keyborard : E = Enter, T = Tab, S = Space.
E (The First window is to select your language) E (New window, introduction to installation) TTT S TTTT E (License) TT S TTT E (Advenced installation, selection of the folder) E (To select the wanted installation) E (Feed-back of the installation) E (End of the l’installation – Check activity of CPU/HDD to detect the end)

The install program is using Java and .Net. Wintricks install Java and .Net too (winetricks dotnet20 or winetricks). You maybe have to install dotnet20. To see the list of the different wintricks type -help before.

After finishing the installation you would see the Football Manager 2009 folder inside /.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Sports Interactive/.
Activation

To activate, download tjhe activator, and extract activator.exe and Launcher.exe in ~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2009/.

Run :
wine "/home/USER/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2009/activator.exe" -activate KEY

Change ‘USER’ by your own user name and ‘KEY’ bye the key you can see in the manual of the game.

Check you typed correctly the key with http://keylookup.fm2009.softanchorinsight.com/, characters O and 0 as well I and 1 are printed in a very similar manner.
Playing

Run :
